Danvers High School Academy Theatre Presents “Romeo and Juliet” for METG Drama Fest
Semi-final performance on March 16 at 1:30 PM at DHS
The Danvers High School Academy Theatre (DHS ACTS) will perform “Romeo and Juliet” as its entry in the 2019 Massachusetts Educational Theater Guild (METG) Drama Festival, in which each school performs a one act play. DHS ACTS moved forward in the preliminary round and will compete in the semi-final round on Saturday, March 16, 2019 at Danvers High School, 60 Cabot Road, Danvers, MA.
In addition to performing in the semi-final round, DHS ACTS will host five competing schools that day. The public is invited to attend; a $12 ticket allows you to see as many as all six of the scheduled one act pieces. The first production is at 9:30 AM, and DHS ACTS will perform at 1:30 PM (full schedule at https://metg.org/high-school-festival).
DHS ACTS’ modern adaptation of William Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet” is set in present day and seeks to make the classic play relevant to today’s youth. The Capulet and Montague families hold a mutual dislike for each other, and also possess vastly different values and views on lifestyle. DHS ACTS’ adaptation contains the dichotomy of Shakespeare’s text and modern technology, including a failed text message with dire results.
The talented cast and crew of 52 DHS students looks forward to presenting this competition piece under the direction of Kyla Moulton (Director) and Tracie Ewing (Technical Director). After Drama Fest, the DHS ACTS 2018-2019 season will conclude with end-of-year performances later this spring.
